How I got the photo: Spring Harvest

Julie Powell - Harvest-1-3

I was recently given a Godox AD200Pro II speedlight and the Godox X3 trigger to play with, and I really wanted to try them out in the studio. I have been recovering from surgery, so I had to keep things small and quick and easy. So, I went with what I had on hand.

Setting the scene

I used a Katebackdrop foldable backdrop in Antique Brown and a grungey work table. For props, I used some old scales, a cast iron pot, some pretty linen and some (good quality) fake green apples, juniper berries, asparagus and artichokes.

  • Gold reflector (gold adds some warmth)
  • Godox AD200Pro II and Phottix 65cm G-capsule softbox with the Neewer Bowns mount adaptor for Godox AD200Pro and Pro II
  • Sekonic L308X light meter

For the lighting, I used the Godox AD200Pro II. I positioned my light a little to the right and angled at 45 degrees from the subject, up high, and angled down. The bottom of the softbox was roughly level with the top of the table. The gold reflector caught and bounced back-reflected light.

Camera gear and settings

  • Camera: Sony A7RIII
  • Lens: Tamron 28-200mm
  • Camera settings: ISO100, f/8, 1/125 secs.
  • Godox AD200Pro II on 1/4 (+0.7) power
  • Godox X3 on A1 channel to match the Godox AD200Pro II

I simply adore dark and moody still-life scenes, don’t you? Want to read more about the Goxo AD200Pro II? Check out the review here.
