How to achieve evenly-lit full-length portraits in a small studio

1 week ago 5

Got some fun ideas for a full-length portrait shoot but feel that your home studio is too small to make them happen? Don’t let small spaces limit your creativity! Today’s featured video brings some tips and techniques for working in small studios to make sure you get stunning and evenly-lit full-length studio portraits.

In the Adorama video above, Gavin Hoey demonstrates how you can easily address the main challenges of shooting full-length portraits in small studio spaces. Perspective distortion, for example, happens when you get too close to your subject and shoot with a wide-angle lens. Lighting your subject evenly is another issue, as wrong light placement can cause unflattering shadows on your subject.

To fix these problems, Hoey gives a bunch of key solutions. Shoot from the waist level and keep it level. Mind your flash placement; don’t put it too close to your subject. Lastly, make your light source larger to achieve softer light. Make sure to watch the full tutorial to see how he was able to achieve his full-length portrait goals. You may be able to get ideas for your own projects as well!
