We're really happy to announce the winner of October's competition “The Unseen Perspective.”
For those of you who don't know, the Light Stalking Monthly Photography Competition carries a $100 People's Choice Award and a $250 Overall Winner Award. The People's Choice Winner is selected by a vote of the community, whereas the overall winner is selected by our guest judge.
The Unseen Perspective Contest
October's contest “The Unseen Perspective” saw some interesting entries that included macros, reflections, low angle and aerial shots, underwater shots and some other creative shots of subjects captured from different angles and perspectives. Participants also creatively came up with entries where they captured images inside a lens ball, light that illuminates the subject in a certain way and one that only lasts for a moment, by shooting through glass, etc., as interpretations of unseen perspectives.
When choosing the winning photos, we wanted to make sure that the decision process was based on a good interpretation of the theme followed by other factors like light, composition, story, details, etc. The results are entirely subjective and there are no losers in any competition as we all know.
Here are October's winners:
First Place: “Lady Liberty in Manhattan” by Jean T
This reflection shot by Jean T is a good example of Unseen Perspective because this image has been captured from Jean's own perspective. If you look at the buildings in the background, they at first may not seem like a reflection but like some distant buildings in a hazy atmosphere. There are also some reflections in the foreground that make the viewer feel intrigued.
Overall, this image has been executed creatively and renders an artistic look and feel. One of the buildings in the background also look like it’s mimicking the statue’s pose. The light looks right and the colours in the scene work well together – green and blue, a very unusual combination of colours.

Second Place: “Tea For Two” By Wendy P
Wendy has captured this beautiful image of two people having tea on a rooftop in London. This scene itself is so beautiful and shows the two people enjoying their time in the sunny balcony and Wendy has captured this shot from a very unique perspective.
With all the architectural elements around, once the viewers spot the subject, the eyes are fixated to that spot and the story really stands out. A great find from an unusual perspective Wendy and congratulations.
Third Place: “Universe Within” by Kaleem S
As mentioned in the title by Kaleem S, this image has a more abstract nature to it and can be interpreted in many ways. With the light falling at the right angle, the textures are emphasised just enough to give it a sort of old “civilisation” look – similar to photos one would see in history books. This image can be interpreted in several ways and it is up how the viewer sees and interprets it.

People's Choice Award Winner
Our monthly photo contests also come with a People's Choice Award. The winner of this part of the contest receives $100 worth of store credit on Lightstalking which they can spend as they please on our blueprints, drills, courses or Presets.
“Unseen Guiding Light” by Frogdaily
The most popular photo for October, voted by the contestants was “Unseen Guiding Light” by Frogdaily, which has won the people's choice award. Frogdaily has made use of perfectly soft light to illuminate the scene and captured the details well with a message linked to it. Congratulations Frogdaily.
We're already into the second week of November and our monthly contest has already started taking entries with a lot of interesting submissions already. This month our theme is Symmetry and Asymmetry.
