Still on the search for the best mirrorless camera that won’t break the bank? In 2024, this may be a challenge with all the options available, and some of the latest mid-range models can still be a bit pricey. Before the year ends, there may be one that you’ve overlooked: the oldie but goodie Olympus OM-D E-M1. Let’s take a look at the reasons why UK professional photographer and videographer Tom Calton thinks this budget mirrorless camera is the GOAT.
“This somewhat forgotten about camera included some pretty ground-breaking technology when it was first released,” he reminds in the description. “As a result, over 10 years later, this camera is still very capable, even by 2024 standards.” Add to that a price tag of around $300 and you have a pretty attractive option for a first or alternate mirrorless camera.
In the video above, he breaks down all the reasons why the once flagship Olympus OM-D E-M1 is worth picking up today, the price tag being one of the most obvious. With the ton of Micro Four Thirds lenses at your disposal, you can make this mirrorless camera as hefty or lightweight as you can — or need. Calton also touches on other important aspects of the camera, such as its handling, features, image quality, autofocus performance, and video quality.
