Water Heart, Birds in Flight and Auroras!

1 week ago 5

Welcome to the weekly Light Stalking community update!

Considering the patience required by wildlife photography, a call for birds is a bold move. To achieve such images, some technicalities have to be resolved before even starting to compose your shot. Telephoto lenses are pretty much required, and fast-shutter speeds will be common on your exposure settings. And with long optics, weight becomes an issue almost immediately; so try having a sturdy tripod by your side. Or a monopod, or a beanie bag, or anything that allows you to cope with gravity and stabilizing your camera.

Now, the necessity for patience becomes evident while scouting — but most importantly — when waiting for the shot. If the telephoto lens' length is not sufficient for you to remain hidden, birds will try their best to avoid you. But eventually, they will become familiar with your bearing; mind that this presence is compounded by your size and smell.

Amidst all, Tersha found it achievable to call — not just for some feathery beings but for birds in flight! So, if you found this thrilling, help us keep the thread alive by adding more of your shots.

This was the first year I’d been in a place with an eagle family. I found them very challenging to capture. When uploading, it was possible to read the leg band, contact the State Fish and Game and learn the eagle was 8 years old and banded several miles away. Fish and Game were very excited about the sighting and an undocumented nest. It was a fun experience.
