I have only been playing with the update (Version 1.021.2) for Luminar Neo a little while, but can already see some major changes and improvements. Here’s what I’ve found, what I liked and what needs further exploration.
What’s new in the Big Fall Upgrade
Color Transfer
Apply the colors from a reference image to your photos with the help of AI. Recreate the styles of your favourite photographers or get creative with unique color transformations. You’ll find it in the Creative Panel with the other Creative lighting and such.
- This is pretty cool; add your own selection to the Color Transfer panel or use the custom images preloaded.
Smart Search
Find images faster with machine learning-based search. Search by object, scene, or even the type of content (e.g., tree, car).
- This actually took quite a while to run my search of ‘horses’ which I knew it should easily find, but didn’t seem to find any and took about 10 minutes? Need to explore this further.
Color Masking
Create precise color-based masks for targeted editing control. The is also a new Twilight Enhancer, but it didn’t really seem to work on the images I tried?
Generative AI Tools
GenErase, GenSwap, and GenExpand now perform with enhanced detail and accuracy, offering even better image generation.
- The GenErase worked really well and much quicker than previous versions.
Filmstrip in the Edit Tab
Edit multiple images more efficiently without leaving the Edit tab.
- This is really handy as it makes it super easy o copy and paste adjustment from one image to another.
Improved Catalog Navigation
Enhanced search and filtering by camera model, lens, aperture, and more.
The verdict?
While I am still exploring various features of Luminar Neo, I have found some things are a great addition or improvement, while others (like the Smart Search) didn’t seem to work that well. But its still early days.
