Halloween is the season for spooky tales of all kinds — even camera gear-related ones! After all, horror comes in many forms, especially when you’re out shooting an important client or personal work. You only need to experience one or two of these disastrous moments to feel a different kind of chill down your spine — the kind that you dread ever happening again, so you thoroughly prepare for it!
Not so long ago, we asked everyone about their biggest photoshoot nightmare (you can still go ahead and share yours), and recently, the folks of MPB put together their own compilation of camera horror stories. In the video above, they have four horrible and horrifying tales of shoots gone wrong. “In the world of photography and video creation, sometimes things don’t always go to plan!” they added. Having to reshoot everything? Check. Thousands of dollars worth of gear ruined? A day’s worth of important footage vanishing in thin air? Forgotten gear crucial to the shoot? Check, check, check.
Meanwhile, if you’re in the mood for a spookfest (we can’t blame you, it comes with the season!), we have more for your reading pleasure from our very own Ken Lee. He’s no stranger to the many kinds of horror that photographers encounter, especially as a night photographer who goes the extra mile to look for interesting (and often scary) locations to shoot. The Spooky Spahn Ranch Zodiac Car, an eerie abandoned piano in a ghost town, and an abandoned Gothic penitentiary, to name a few. He also had some frightening encounters with both animals and strangers in the dark, which he shared due to questions about any chilling encounters while he was out on a night shoot.
Lastly, Ken reminds us to only use reputable platforms like MPB to avoid used camera gear horror stories, whether you’re buying/selling for the first time (or the nth time)!
So, what’s your photography or camera horror story? Share them in the comments below! Happy Halloween!
